Six Tips To Increase The Chance Of Having A Baby

If you are a soon-to-be mum-to-be, waiting patiently for the news that a baby is on the way...you are not alone. Falling pregnant is often not as easy as everyone imagines. Fertility rates have declined in the western world, for a variety of reasons including economic, social and cultural reasons. However for those seeking pregnancy, there is a high rate of infertility. One in six couples are reported to have had problems conceiving. And of those who were struggling, only a small proportion of couples sought professional help.

Prior to seeking assistance with infertility, there are a number of things you can do to boost your body's capacity to conceive.

1. Dad's give up the addiction to caffeine. It has been shown that a high daily consumption of coffee (such as three cups a day) in males reduces their sperm count, and reduces their chances of fathering a child. Dad's (to be)...do your bit and cut back on the coffee!!

2. Improve your diet. It might be stating the obvious, but a diet that is high in fruit, vegetables, protein, calcium and wholegrain cereals is essential. Fast food with little nutritional value is not recommended for those seeking to become pregnant. Pregnant women who regularly eat fruit and vegetables reduce the risk of miscarriage, so too , does vitamin supplementation and eating dairy.

3. Quit smoking. Smoking lowers the sperm count in a would-be father. Smoking has a host of detrimental health effects on the couple trying to get pregnant. Smoking during pregnancy is an absolute no-no. The poisons you draw into your body are passed from your lungs to the growing fetus. Don't even consider it. So if you have to give up when you are pregnant - increase you chances of falling pregnant by quitting now!

4. Take regular exercise. You don't need to overdo it, but a fitter, and more rested body will assist in conception, and indeed pregnancy.

5. Understand your cycle. Get to know your menstrual cycle, and know the changes in your body so that you can identify your most fertile time.

6. Control your weight. If you are underweight - get back up to normal, your body has some pretty demanding times ahead of it. If you are overweight, you need to lose a few kilos - again your body will be taking on extra weight through the pregnancy so you need to prepare for that.

These common sense tips will put you in good stead to increase your chances of conceiving.

Teach your baby to read

Mum and Dad are the single most important influence on a young child's life. It is Mum and Dad who are the primary educators of the little life, at least up until five years of age, and many would argue even beyond school age. What goes on at home, particularly in the area of language development, has a significant bearing on whether the child will survive, dive or thrive in the school environment.
In the first two years of life it is important to get those language building blocks put into place. And the single most important concept to grasp is words. Little words, short words, everyday words, names, even hard-to-say words; words with massive meaning. A home that is filled with words and are constantly being reinforced will create an environment where the child can't help but absorb language. A young child will learn "yes" early, and of course, "no" , because those words have significant meaning. These two words, along with a few others can be learned, understood and verbalized by many 12 month olds.
A special word for "food" like "dinner-time" or "breakfast" helps the child to understand the link between words and activities, and more importantly, enables the child to express themselves when they have a need. A repeated word with meaning is a much better than a grizzle or a wail when no one understands what the need is through a sobbing, misunderstood cry. Other words may be "rest-time" and "clean nappy?", or "mum", "dad" and the names of siblings. These all have massive meanings and the just-walking child can pick these up very quickly.
So you may not be able to teach your baby to read before she walks, but the foundations of reading are language and words. And the use of words in a careful, considered and positive atmosphere will greatly impact your baby's capacity to move quickly through those early academic milestones.
